Eleni is a retired schoolteacher who spent decades caring for her husband through a long, debilitating illness. During those heavy years, her kitchen was her meditative escape, where she perfected rich lemon-infused chicken soups (youvarlakia) and honey-drenched walnut pastries (galaktoboureko). After her husband passed, she opened her home every Friday evening for “The Empty Chair Table,” inviting lonely widows, widowers, and overworked college students who couldn’t travel home for the holidays. Her table heals broken routines, turning strangers into family over steaming plates of comfort food.
